Luxury travel buzzwords like authentic, local, curate, and, of course, experience may be overused, but they have become buzzwords because of their phenomenal staying power. While some trends fade with time, some just seem to resound with customers from one year into the next. Here’s how we see the trends shaping up at the high end of the market for the rest of this year and into the next.
Travelers want to be with locals, they want to be immersed in a destination. Instead of guides who know a lot of facts, they want insiders who can really give them the lowdown. Travel providers are increasingly customising experiences to fit each traveller or group; and that truly is what makes all the difference. A couple honeymooning in Africa made it to their camp after a long week of travelling to find pictures of their loved ones on the walls; a family celebrating a reunion was escorted to a special Tuscany vineyard where they were able to create their own personalized wine, which will now be aged, bottled and shipped to them.
Travellers will always spend money on something that is considered hip, on trend and totally desirable. But being hip is not enough, hip and luxury need to go hand in hand to ensure the best experience.
Travellers increasingly look for whimsy and spontaniety in their wanderings. Some people just want to go to a far away land and let their heart decide where they go from there. While food has taken a central place in luxury travel, So many properties are recruiting an artist-in-residence and turning their public spaces into evolving galleries from local artists with revolving art exhibits. The new Faena Hotel in Miami Beach kicks up the art theme with a whole art district, art programs for guests, and a children’s art immersion experience where local artists inspire kids to create their own masterpieces. The Ritz-Carlton Toronto has an in-house artist who designs plates for the hotel’s restaurant and works with guests to design their own.
Michelin starred Chef Vikas Khanna was recently in Dubai launching his new limited edition book, Utsav. Translated to ‘festival’, the book is a culinary epic of Indian celebrations, documenting the rich cultural heritage of India through its festivals and rituals, and features over 1000 recipes.
With some of the writing in pure gold, containing 1200 pages and weighing nearly 16 kilos, Vikas Khanna has gifted signed copies of the book to President Narendra Modi, President Barack Obama, the Dalai Lama, The Pope and The Queen of England.

This opportunity was possible thanks to DMCC who facilitated the transaction; the luxury brand is now able to have access to amazing diamonds without hundreds of intermediaries. The press conference marks an historical moment for de GRISOGONO who always expressed his love for pure diamonds.

Earlier in the day a ribbon cutting ceremony was organised at the brand new boutique in the presence of Mr Fawaz Gruosi, founder and Creative Director of de GRISOGONO and Mr. Abdulhamied Seddiqi, Vice Chairman of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons to cut the black ribbon together.
To celebrate this amazing news the brand decided to take the commemoration to another level and joined hands with Flavio Briatore to host an exclusive cocktail followed by a party at Billionaire Mansion Dubai at The Taj Dubai in Business bay. High-jewellery pieces were on display and the evening was animated by amazing live shows executed by talented singers and performers.
